Favicon problem

I've been trying to get a favicon to appear on my website with no success.
I just cannot find out what is wrong with my code.

The favicon is a 16x16 icon. The line I entered within HEAD is
<link REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF="im\favicon.ico">
but it just will not work.. Anyone know why? should it be listed
differently?

IE needs the page to be bookmarked before the icon appears (modern
browsers don't). delete your cache/history and any links you have to the
site. visit the site and then bookmark it
