Default Which editor? - 12-16-2004 , 10:47 AM

I've been jerking around with HTML for awhile, certainly not as part of my
profession as a software developer (I have not developed any web applications or
web sites, just created my own little web site for pictures, resume, etc.) I'd
like a free editor that does WYSIWYG HTML editing. I used FrontPage, I believe
it was, but for some reason I can't quite remember, I couldn't deal with it
(something like I could not do certain things I wanted to, or couldn't figure
out how, and then lost the ability to edit these things by hand, IIRC.)

I just another post, to wit:

Quote:
Now, how to deal with it. First, get rid of FrontPage. I mean that,
really. Get a decent text editor, with syntax highlighting, like HTML-Kit
http://www.chami.com/html-kit>, and then go to W3Schools
http://www.w3schools.com> and do the HTML and CSS tutorials.
Is this the recommended path for someone like me? Or is this editor not
WYSIWYG, but WYSIWYG is not really what I want after all? thanks

This has gotta be a joke.
Download Macromedia Dreamweaver, and buy a good book such as "HTML, XHTML
& CSS Bible"
Good luck.

I would recommend using Dreamweaver if you are interested in having the
application do all of the work up front. It does have some very powerful
automation tools for updating sites. One of the issues I am now having with
it is that it is limited to the featureset as of publication date. It has
tools with bucketloads of Javascript, much of which can now be done with
CSS-2. Make sure that you are using DW with the source window visible at
all times.

Personally I am only using DW for the updating and some formatting features.
I have moved to doing all the single page editing with HTML-Kit or on my
Linux Box I am using Bluefish.

DW is a great app. It has great production line features. Since it is just
me working on the pages locally I can write and edit the code faster
without it.

You did say free right! I have tried this one and it is nice for freeware:
