Default Which is the best software for web design? - 12-03-2005 , 04:50 PM

Hi,

I am thinking of purchasing Macromedia Studio 8 and learning how to design &
develop web sites. I thought this package would be the best since it is a
bundled package that seems to cover all the different types of software i
would need.

Anyone have any advice?

Thanks,

Michael

The best package is no package at all. What you really need to do is learn
HTML and CSS, neither are very difficult. Get yourself a good text editor,
I like HTML-Kit <http://www.chami.com/html-kit/>, and a good web browser, I
like Opera and Firefox. You should also get a good style sheet editor, I
like TopStyle <http://www.bradsoft.com>, it comes in a Pro version and a
lite version that integrates with HTML-Kit.

Then go to <http://allmyfaqs.net/faq.pl?HTML_Tutorials> and look at the
list of tutorials. There is also a lot of information on CSS at
<http://allmyfaqs.net/faq.pl?CSS_FAQs>. The HTML specs are at
<http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/> and CSS is at <http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-
CSS2/>.

Forget about Macromonia, ehhh media
There is an awful lot to learn to get it right.
For an easy, effective and extremely pleasing way of creating web sites, try
NotObjects Fusion.
I chucked all Macromedia products, other then Flash and Fireworks.
NotObjects Fusion is also much easier on the pocket.
Or else you go and learn HTML. HTML Kit is good.
Have fun.

Hi,
I apologise for pinching this thread.
I used to use Hot Metal pro for my web designing then went onto
Dreamweaver. However I now want something that is quicker to use but
has all the qualities of the other packages. I was looking at NOF9.
Not having tried it could you tell me is it all singing and dancing
and would I be able to edit the HTML if required. Thanks

Hi Cyberdog
It's a News group, but in anytime :-)
NOF 9 is much quicker and easier to use then MM Dreamweaver.
Best, download a trial version and try it.

Yes, you can edit HTML, if you want to.
Yes, it has many additional "thingies" which are very desirable to have.
Yes, you can create a Web Site in just a few minutes.
Yes, it's very easy to "publish" on your computer, view it and then if you
are happy to "Download"
No, I am not being paid for this. :-)

I used Namo for awhile but I won't go back. I got tired of the lack of
control and code bloat that comes with some editors. I'm just an
amateur but I find if you can keep your general overall layouts
somewhat the same between pages, it's just as fast to hand code
things. The positive side is that for page-to-page I'm seeing
somewhere between a 5 to1 to 4 to 1 reduction in file size and a like
reduction is load times for the basic page (not graphics). At the
moment I'm using Editpad but would welcome suggestions for a good
basic (simple) editor set up for HTML/Style sheet coding.
