So you said in alt.html.writers - answers can be found there. If you need to post to multiple newsgroups, please crosspost rather than multipost. Sadly, you can never satisfy those who run these groups. When you go to one group and multipost, you are asked not to do that. Then you go to another group and crosspost, and those folks aren't happy. Then, they jump on some guy for not bottom posting. I think bottom posting is a pain, myself. And there are others that share my view. But, a vigilante mob comes down on them if they don't do it the exact way a particular group requires it. It wouldn't be so bad if they were civil about it, but many of them are very nasty and abusive. But the above reply was just somewhat impolite. That *is* an improvement over many of the other newsgroups. My personal position is that it is unreasonable to expect everyone on Usenet to post to the exact specifications that are required on a particular group because people are always jumping from group to group. I don't know about you, but my memory isn't good enough to remember the rules for every list I visit on Usenet. And improvement on the diplomacy would go a long way towards getting many of these users to cooperate with you. They will never be perfect, and you have to accept that. And I am *not* a friend of the guy that came up with the idea of mandatory bottom posting on Usenet, or couldn't you tell. ;-) Personally, I think it is a pain to have to scroll to the end of every message to read the new comments as everything else has already been posted and read. But, that's my preference. If I start a newsgroup of my own, I'll request that they top post. But I won't burn them if they don't. I ran what was a very successful list called 'Mishmash' and it lasted for many years. It is still around, but has finally teetered out. I didn't allow abusive behavior on the list. We kept very good clientele. And we had many a good discussion on things of interest. Sorry, but it always kind of annoys me when when a moderator comes down publicly on one of the users. I only did that when someone exercised abusive behavior towards others. And if we couldn't settle it peacefully, we (generally, the users on Mishmash, but sometimes I) would ask them to leave. And they were asked in a graceful manner. If they didn't go gracefully, I sent the command to delete them from the list membership. Regards, Fred |
