I hope somebody can help me here? I have a web site where you click on a
thumbnail and a larger image opens in a separate window.
Martin, if it's just the image only opening in a new window, you can pinch
the sorce code from the "Images" page of
http://www.perranporth-caravans.co.uk where no scrollbars are visible, and
the windows are sized to fit the diffent shaped images.

If you want to add text to the image in the new window image then you'll
need scrollbars to allow for users who enlarge their text size and each
image will sit in it's own HTM page.

To get the source code for that method go to the "D.I.Y. Meet 08/03" page
of http://www.f650.co.uk and you be able to acquire it there. Again
different image sizes are allowed for. just modify the code to suit your
own needs.

It is time consuming, but it's worth it if the final result works well.

One thing I've noticed is that the thumbnails take a really long time to
load on dial-up, and when I looked I noticed you're using some of the
full-sized images as thumbnails, but just resizing them in the browser with
the HTML markup.

For example this thumbnail is 57K
http://www.wwbs.freeserve.co.uk/imag...mages/Coot.jpg

Only this one seem to be sized reasonably at 1.5K
http://www.wwbs.freeserve.co.uk/imag...male_small.jpg

Maybe it's because you've forgtten to name the thumbnail properly in you
markup, as for the blackbird one (which is correct) I notice you have the
word *small* in the image name, but in the others you don't.

The penny has just dropped. I know realise what I've been doing and I must
confess I did wonder why their were no "small" images and that all I seemed
to be doing was resizing the larger ones. It was totally unintentionally and
when I went on line I did wonder why the thumbnails took so long to load.

What was taking a long time to do is going to take even longer. Amateurs I
ask you, but I suppose I've got to start somewhere.

Even more thanks to you Trevor. If you hadn't taken the time and trouble to
check out my "handywork"!! I would have been none the wiser. Lets hope I
can sort this one out.

Many thanks

Martin

The problem is you don't know what size monitor folks are viewing on, so it
makes sense to open the 'new windows' to the top left on the monitor,
especially if they are large images, such as your
http://www.wwbs.freeserve.co.uk/imag...kbird_male.jpg which will
actually be bigger than some viewing windows anyway.

Also it's often better if it opens up 'high' as you can then still read the
text beneath while viewing the image, whereas if it's in the center, you'd
be forced to drag it to read the accompanying caption. People can always
drag your 'new window' around with little effort..
