dynamically adding a stylesheet

Is there a way to add a stylesheet to a document that doesn't have one?

I've seen all sorts of hacks based on a sheet already existing through
@import or <rel />, but nothing that will attach a sheet to a document
that does not have one already.

Any examples out there?
