Embedding Media Player on a layer

I want to design a web page with a series of photos, each one linked to a
video. Were you to click any one photo, its video would play in a prescribed
location on the page. (Each video would play at the same location.)

I suspect that this would be done with a layer, and while I know how to
embed the video, I've never embedded it on a layer before. I would be
grateful for someone confirming that this is a task for layers, if so,
assisting with the coding/technique for doing it, and if not, providing a
better way!

You need an <object> element in the layer (assuming div). This page may
help.

Use caution as Microsoft tends to be "Microsoft Internet Explorer Specific"
when it comes to dhtml coding. While browsers are becoming more standards
compliant, you still may have to make adjustments to make it work with all
browsers.
