Default Autoscroll within Layers with JS? - 09-29-2004 , 05:57 AM

Hi,

I am currently working on an online configurator for a customer of mine.
He builds modular gemmological intruments that can be assembled into a
bench. The online configurator is supposed to help the customer to
arrange his individual bench for his needs. Therefore he can simply
move, add or remove modules from a toolbar on the side to the
"workspace" (this is how I called the space where you can actually play
with the arrangement-any better ideas?). Take a look at the development
site to understand my further explanations:
http://www.gemmodul.com/

Getting to the point: I used a big layer as the workspace layer. When
the user adds a new module it is added to the far right side of the
currently existing configuration. I set the workspace layer to always
have scroll bars so the user can scroll left or right when the
configuration is longer than the screen). Because I only need horizontal
scrolling I hid the vertical scroll bar with an extra layer.
When you scroll the workspace to the very left (so you see the far left
module) and add a new module (which is automatically added to the other
end, the far right end of the configuration) you cannot automatically
see the new module. Is it possible to automatically scroll to the
position of the layer where the new module just has been added (or any
other scroll position)?

I hope I could make myself clear. I think looking at the site is easiest
to understand me.

Thanks and best regards from Hamburg, Germany

Felix

P.S. I wonder how (and if at all) you can view the website with your
browsers. Please let me know if you have difficulties with a major
browser. I couldn't test it with any other browser but ie6.0 and firefox
0.8.
